Created in partnership with Primaloft, The North Face’s proprietary ThermoBall synthetic insulation does a pretty convincing job of mimicking down. It’s incredibly lightweight and extremely compressible. Unlike down, however, it retains its ability to keep you warm even if it becomes wet. Packed into bottleneck quilted baffles, the insulation equips the jacket with lightweight warmth in a low-profile silhouette that allows the jacket to serve as an outer layer or a toasty midlayer. The adjustable, elastic-bound hood extends coverage and enhances warmth. The jacket’s nylon ripstop shell has a DWR finish to offer water-repellency (NOTE: It is not waterproof). Other features include a water-resistant full-length front zipper, zippered hand pockets, a zippered interior security chest pocket, internal elastic-bound cuffs, and a hem cinch-cord. One of the hand pockets even doubles as a stuff sack for the jacket.
